5 Tips for Traveling with a Toddler
Is Spring break coming up for you? 😎 Whether you're traveling for an hour in the car or spending the day on an airplane, traveling with toddlers can be tricky!
In case you didn’t know, I have 4 kids of my own so we have done our fair share of traveling with toddlers. There’s a thing or two I’ve learned a long the way so I wanted to pass it along to you!
Tips for Traveling with a Toddler:
If your child is potty-trained, take them to the bathroom at every single stop or before, during, and after boarding the plane, or frequently at rest stops on the road. Trust me, you can never take a toddler to the bathroom too many times. Also, bring a Pull-up or two for backup.
If your child is not potty-trained, make sure to bring Arm & Hammer baking soda bags in case you don’t have anywhere to dispose of the diaper while you’re on the move. No one needs to smell that 😂
Fill a bag with dollar-store activities and only bring them out one at a time. If you show your child everything at once, you’ll be out of activities in the first 5 minutes (I know from experience). You can get window stickers, coloring books, sticker books, water-wow books (my favorite!), velcro puzzles, and pop-up books. Show them one item and let them play with it for as long as possible. Once they get bored of it, move on to the next thing.
Bring snacks/treats that last a long time and that you rarely buy at home. If you bring cheerios, offer one at a time and make a game out of it. You can also bring a little sucker that they can lick for an hour 🍭 When it comes to traveling, I do what it takes to help my kids stay entertained and happy. It’s not an everyday thing that I fish out suckers and games nonstop but if it keeps them entertained while traveling, it’s totally worth it!
As you’re traveling, keep in mind that most people are very understanding and do not mind if your toddler is throwing tantrums or your baby is crying. It happens! So if your toddler has a meltdown on the plane, remember this is totally normal behavior so try not to stress. As long as you get to your destination safely, I’d call it a win!
